How do I perform a reset of the iLO3 interface on an HP server?

You want to reset your iLO3 interface? Below is a guide to reset your iLO3 to its factory default settings.

Resetting iLO3 to its default settings can be useful, for example, if you need to use the default login credentials or if all settings need to be reset.

The guide is suitable for HP server models such as: ProLiant DL120 Gen7, ProLiant DL360 Gen7, ProLiant DL380 Gen7, ProLiant DL580 Gen7.

I. Reset to factory default settings during boot by pressing the F8 key:

  1. Connect your server to the power supply and turn it on by pressing the power button on the front.
  2. After turning on the server, let it continue the system startup until the text "Press any key to view option ROM messages" is displayed. Then press any key. Note: The text "Press any key to view option ROM messages" may not necessarily appear. If the text is not displayed, the second step can be ignored.
  3. Now the relevant message for you, "iLO 3 Standard press (F8) to configure", is displayed. Press the F8 function key.
  4. Use your keyboard to navigate to the "File" tab in the overview and then to "Set Defaults" to reset iLO3 to factory defaults, and confirm the operation "factory defaults" with the F10 function key. Confirm the next message again with the "Enter" key.
  5. iLO3 will be reset, and this process will take a moment. After that, you can log in with the default data of iLO3, which are usually located on a sticker on the server case.

II. iLO3 restart via web interface without configuration change:

Resetting through this method can be useful if iLO3 is only responding slowly.

Note: Restarting iLO3 via the web interface does not change the configurations; it only completes any running firmware updates and terminates active connections to iLO3.

If network settings are changed or a firmware upgrade is installed, iLO3 may be automatically reset.

1. Access the iLO3 web interface and log in with your individual login data, which are usually located directly on the server case.

Note: When logging in to iLO3, there is no differentiation between upper and lowercase letters for the username.

2. Now expand the "Information" menu on the left side and then click on the "Diagnostics" tab.

3. Click on "Reset" and confirm again with OK.
